Hello!A little introduction from my side. Have been following the forums for some time now. Have been interested in watches since a few years and with my new job I'm stepping up the hobby a bit more. I'm interested in 1900-1950 American wristwatches. I'm now owner of a few Waltham's and a Elgin. All 7jewels. Bought my first 17jewel Waltham a week ago with the serial number; B13978. I've never had a Waltham with a letter in front of the serial. Can somebody explain my how to "read" these serials
Hamilton Byrd solid 14K yellow gold, circa 1930. The Byrd is part of the rare Explorer series of 19-jewel, grade 401 watches named for famous explorers. This series used the Hamilton grade 401 movement which was built from Illinois grade 207 movements after Hamilton purchased the Illinois Watch Co. in 1928. The Byrd was named for Commander Richard E. Byrd, the famous aviator and polar explorer who was the first to fly over the North Pole. It was priced at $150.00 in 1930. Powered by 19-je
