I was in high school at the time. I repaired electric and some mechanical clocks. This was in Kansas City. I always had a fascination with mechanical objects. Today, after going through the digitals, LED, quartz and so on I wear a selfwinding Seiko. I have several old pocket watches purchased at auctions and a Baylor chronograph wind up (I understand this was made from TAG parts) that I bought in 1970. I will sit back and look at posts and comment if I have anything worth while to add.
I have a Hamilton WW which has a case that stymies me. carefull inspection of the back of the watch with a loupe does not show a seam or joint in any of the angles on the back and the front shows no sign of a place where the stem would come free. I am used to Hamiltons opening by prying off the back with the movement as a unit. I suspect that the crystal has to be removed and that there is some way to remove the stem so the movement can be brought out and examined, but I don't want to damage
