Hello. I am new to the site but glad I found it. I am also new to collecting as this question will obviously show. The question of the number of jewels on vintage watches and reliability has me wondering. I have seen remarks about staying away from Elgin and other brands with 7 jewels as their bearings could be worn and the repair would be more than the item's worth. Any validity to this? I realize that it would probably be a case by case basis. However I'm just trying to avoid potential
