While there is a lineage of great watches in the Fifty Fathoms / Submariner / Seamaster tradition, I can never pull the trigger on them. I'm drawn elsewhere. My local watchmaker is pretty reasonably priced for overhauls,($165) but he takes ages (he had my last 3 watches for over 5 months!), and he doesn't appear to refinish the cases. I noticed one of my patients had a nice vintage gold Seamaster which looked brand-new, and he said that he just got it overhauled by another watchmaker. He then said something insulting about 'my' guy! In the meantime my wife's Mom gave me her deceased father's 60's era Seamaster and her deceased husband's 60's era
