In the Elgin Service Manual, in the Parts section, there's a listing for 'Pinion, Cannon for curved or spherical reg. or flat Nite-Glo'. I could understand why you'd need a different cannon pinion for curved dials - you need to raise the hands farther to clear the higher dial center. But why use the longer cannon pinion on a luminous dial?Well, my question was answered when I looked on the back of what to all appearances were regular, non-luminous Dauphine hands. There was lume on the BACK of
